We've added support for a few more functions in Mode's Calculated Fields.

RANK_DENSE returns the rank of each row within the partition of a result set with no gaps in the ranking values, so you can assign a strict hierarchy, like when you set the speaker order for a conference.

RANK does almost the same thing but assigns the same numeric value to ties. Your Sales team might prefer that you use RANK for the quarterly performance dashboard!

NTILE allows you to assign a rough ranking or grouping, which you might want to use to simplify complex performance metrics into a 5-star system.

Remember that these are analytic functions, so in each visualization, you can adjust the scope and order of the calculation from the table calculation settings menu.

In Mode's spotlight search (accessible from the upper right corner), you are now able to refine search queries to more quickly find existing content. This will help teams build on existing reports, reduce duplicative efforts by using the same sources of truth, and move more quickly together.

Filters allow you to limit the objects (Reports, Datasets, and/or Collections) returned by the search.

The new controls also let you specify what you want your search to match on: name, description, creator name, or query syntax. Collections can only match on name and description.

And you can always apply an additional filter to just see content created by you!

You are now able to create timeline and waterfall charts in Mode's Visual Explorer. These charting improvements allow you to better visualize sequences over time, identify dependencies and relationships, and waterfall charts are particularly useful for showing how different factors contribute to a total sum or outcome.

Users can specify the start of the bar or area mark type using the new baseline channel available in Visual Explorer to create waterfall and timeline charts.

With Default Field Settings, you now have the ability to define and apply standardized configurations for fields within a query or Dataset. This streamlines the process of creating consistent charts and Reports, empowering you to make data-driven decisions with ease.

Formatting: Users can set default formatting preferences for fields within each dataset. This ensures that charts automatically adhere to predefined formats, reducing manual effort and ensuring consistency across visualizations.

Color settings: Users can assign specific colors to values within fields, enabling consistent color-coding across charts using the same dataset.

Default aggregation: Users can specify default aggregations (e.g., sum, average) which are automatically applied when adding fields to visualizations, enhancing efficiency and standardization.

Improvement

Mode has released a series of updates to our Snowflake connection that make it easier for you to manage your Snowflake access and continue to enhance security.

Snowflake key pair authentication

This is an alternative method to basic authentication of username and password for enhanced security. It makes it easier for customers to manage their Snowflake access and rotate their credentials.

Bridge support for Snowflake

You can now use Mode’s Bridge connector inside your network that has direct access to your Snowflake database (e.g. Private Snowflake instances) when you are unable to connect directly.

Override the default role for querying Snowflake

You can now override the default role for querying Snowflake by setting a role in the connection settings.

New

You now have the ability to update the display label for each field in a chart to improve readability. The display label will be reflected in all places where the display label is mentioned in the chart (axis title, legend title, header titles, tooltip, etc.)

This option is available for all Quick Charts and Visual Explorer charts except for Flat Table Quick Charts.

The introduction of the Histograms Quick Chart in Mode makes visualizing data distributions more accessible, providing users with insights into patterns, central tendencies, and outliers within their datasets.

Users can elevate their data analysis in Mode by leveraging the flexibility of binning numerical fields in Visual Explorer. This powerful feature opens up a world of possibilities, allowing users to customize their visualizations for a more tailored and in-depth analysis. Users now have the ability to create stacked histograms to understand the composition of different categories within each bin, compare distributions with overlapping histograms, create a grid of smaller histograms, each representing a subset or category of your data, and unveil data intensity patterns with heat maps – all made possible with the flexibility of binned fields.

We're thrilled to announce some fantastic enhancements to Quick Charts that will elevate your data visualization experience.

The recent color updates that have been introduced to Visual Explorer are now also available in Quick Charts. You can now assign a specific color to a value in the color field in a Quick Chart and also color by measures in a Quick Chart.

We've also introduced:

• The ability to add nested and manual sorting options in Quick Charts.
• The ability to add table calculations to a Quick Chart.

Users who use both Looker and Mode can now connect to Looker's Open SQL interface from Mode. You are now able to query your Looker Explores or Views as if they were tables in your Data Warehouse. This is helpful for analysts doing deep-dives and to ensure data consistency.
